Profile

What was your graduating class year? If you were a dormie, which one?
1991
What years were you at Lakenheath?
1987-1991
Where are you now, and where have you been?
I have been living and working in Grand Rapids, Michigan, since August 2002.
What's new with you? Work, play, relationships, family?
I teach 3rd and 4th grades in a private classical school in Grand Rapids. In addition to teaching, my responsibilities include editing and publishing the quarterly newsletter we send to donors and potential donors, as well as heading up an indoor gardening club and assisting the music teacher as needed. We are hoping to have our own property soon, where I can establish a school garden program. I teach piano and guitar to a few students from school and tutor kids from other schools in math and reading. In my spare time, I stay active in my church and at the YMCA, take guitar lessons (although I'm currently on a break with those), and spend time with friends and family. I'm also working on a Master's Degree at St. John's College in Annapolis, MD, in the summers.
What did you do between Lakenheath and now?
After graduation, my family moved to NY, and I went to DePauw University in Indiana where I majored in Russian. I was able to spend a semester and a summer studying in St. Petersburg and am always looking for opportunities to go back there.
I lived in Indianapolis for two years after graduation trying out different jobs and not really liking any of them. I considered grad school but returned to DePauw to take a few more classes and do some student teaching, and in some box somewhere I have a little piece of paper that says I am qualified to teach elementary school.
From August 2000-July 2002, I lived in Nagoya, Japan, where I taught at the International Christian Academy of Nagoya (ICAN). I thoroughly enjoyed my time teaching 1st & 2nd grades, music, and drama at ICAN. Living in Japan was one of the best experiences of my life.
I have been in Grand Rapids teaching at North Hills Classical Academy since returning from Japan.
Name some old Lakenheath classmates you have contact with and will tell about this site.
Sadly, I have not been in contact with any Lakenheath people, other than Rudy Lara who told me about this site, in several years.

Hey! I was just wondering when you are coming to Maryland or are you already here? We're going to New Hampshire this next week and then I'll be back in VA. I'd love to try to get together with you. Katie

Hey! I hope you have a happy Easter. Are you off for spring break this week? Kids hunted eggs this morning, now we just have to hide the candy from Carl so he doesn't eat it all at once! When it gets closer to your summer classes let me know, and we'll plan for sometime to get together. Hope all is well.

Oh, let's see, got my guitar in October. My brother-in-law plays and I have had the desire for a long time so I thought no time like the present. My next adventure will be to learn Spanish!

Hey there friend! I don't know why we keep losing touch. How are you? Not much new here, but you will be pleased to know that I have started playing guitar (if you want to call it that).
