Profile

What was your graduating class year? If you were a dormie, which one?
1988
What years were you at Lakenheath?
1979-1983 & 1986-1988
Where are you now, and where have you been?
I've finally settled down in Abilene, Kansas. It's a small town of 6,700.
What's new with you? Work, play, relationships, family?
I've been in my current job (Abilene's Community Development Director) for 4 years. I started playing the banjo about 4 years ago and I've become an avid reader. I also got divorced 4 years ago and have had a couple of girlfriends since. No SO at the moment and I'm focusing my energies on things other than the ladies. I have 3 kids - Jamison (14) who's bigger than I was when I graduated from LHS and fraternal twin daughters (Annelise & Aubrey) who are 9. They live with their mother in Olathe, Kansas. I see them every other weekend. I'm very much an engaged dad.
What did you do between Lakenheath and now?
After graduation, I hung around Lakenheath for 6 months and then went to Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. I graduated from ESU with a BA in Economics and Geography. Got married in 1992 and our son arrived in 1993. Then I went to Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS) and received a Masters in Regional and Community Planning.

My first job after college was with the City of Abilene, Texas. In 1997, I moved back to Kansas to be the Saline County (Salina) Planning and Zoning Director. Then I moved to the KC-metro area to work as a consultant. That lasted 2 years and then I came to Abilene, KS. In Abilene, I'm a big fish in a small pond and I find that small town living is to my liking.

I enjoy fishing, going to bluegrass concerts, playing my banjo, promoting music through the local Arts Council, volunteering for everything under the sun, coaching soccer and reading.
Name some old Lakenheath classmates you have contact with and will tell about this site.
Heather (Sanders) Armstrong turned me on to the site. In the last few years I've had contact with Debbie Womack and Tiffany Ayers. I'll let my brother know about the site as well.

Tomatos, basil and peppers.....

I'm always looking for a new skill. Something I haven't done before and is a useful or entertaining skill. Whether it's being able to quote Alexander Hamilton, build a cowboy hat (oragami style) out of a beer box, play the "Ballad of Jed Clampet" on the banjo or tie a cherry stem with my tongue.... I'm always looking to learn something new. You never know when it will come in handy. One of my latest genres of skills involves being self sufficeint. I've picked up cooking and experiment with a new… Continue

Reflecting on ... STUFF and finding an Epiphany !!!!!

You know what. I'm not one to believe phsycho-babble and whatnot, but this past weekend was an emotional rollercoaster and given that Skate and I had a significant drive ahead of us, I had plenty of time to reflect before returning to the daily grind. I got home, cleared my in-box, put away my toiletries in a "just so" fashion and popped the cork on a recently vintaged Toasted Head Merlot. The deep rich red vino intaken on the porch was the catalyst to a number of epiphanies. Most of the epiphan… Continue

I Just Can't Say "NO" ..... to all the right things.... Is this a vice?

On Monday, I attended the annual coaches meeting for the soccer league I've been coaching in for the last 5 years. My kids have never been on one of my teams. I do it because no one around knows the first thing about soccer and I enjoy teaching and seeing the kids play hard and enjoy themselves. So what is one of the first things a coach does at the beginning of the season? They make up the practice schedule. I sat down with my work and personal calendars and realized that I don't have a l… Continue

These kidz nowwwa daze... they just don't mo$h like we used to...

I saw a photo of Jason Avery at a Breaking Benjamin concert and it brought back memories of last summer's big event and questions that arose afterwards. The event... ROCKFEST 2007 in Kansas City. The band... I can't remember them all... Buck Cherry, Saliva, Federation of Horsepower, Puddle of Mud, Godsmack, Red Line Chemistry, etc..... 14 bands in all. Who was there?..... My son, I and 60,0000 of our closest friends. My son is 14 and I figured it was time to show him what a big outdoor concert w… Continue

Burning stuff --- then and now --- pit parties !!!!

I just realized that the more things change... the more they stay the same. Let's take burning stuff for example. This evening..... as I will every other weekend for the next 6 months, I was burning stuff in my backyard. This particular evening I was joined by my children, Punk Rock Bill and Ultra-Religious Hunter Guy Steve. We burned stuff (my paper recycling pile, tree limbs, hedge, fence posts... whatever) in a washtub in my backyard. Yes, alcohol and instruments (guitar, banjo and recorder)… Continue

I didn't even know that there was a reunion. I am so out of touch with everyone and everything. You will have to let me know when there is another one. And let me know when you will be coming thru Colorado again.

OMG!!!!!! How are you? This is the craziest, coolest thing. Ariana sent me a link to this site a long time ago, and just today I decided to follow up on it. Junior high was such a fun time. I always wonder how old friends are doing. It looks as though you are thoroughly enjoying life. Very cool! Excellent for you!
